Five Things About Floridians

Most of my readers are presumably from Florida. Since I have some non-Floridian family and friends reading this blog, I thought I would whip up a fun little post about us Floridians. Here are five things you should know about Floridians!

1) We're NOT all weird/crazy.

I like to think I'm not weird, at least for a "Florida man."

I've noticed we've got a bit of a rep online. Despite what headlines or memes on the internet may lead you to believe, we're actually a pretty normal bunch. A lot of us are just everyday people living our everyday lives. At least, that's what I like to tell myself. I'm pretty normal, right? Right?!

2) We love our beaches.

"Water" you up to? ;)

Since our state is a peninsula, we've got plenty of sandy shores. Although I rarely take advantage of the abundant opportunities to visit our beaches, one of my favorite activities is standing on the shore and appreciating the vast stretch of ocean. God's creation is a beautiful thing!

3) We have gators walking around, and it's normal to us.

(Side note: this is technically a West African Slender-snouted Crocodile, but it's basically a gator, right?)

I'm not just talking about members of the football team! Yes, we basically have giant aquatic dinosaurs causally walking around and swimming in ponds and rivers in our State. Yes, we know it's like living in Jurassic Park. Yes, this is normal for us. Have you never seen a gigantic man-eating lizard while on a casual stroll in the park? Weird...

4) We can take our theme parks VERY seriously...

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them" - Walt Disney

There's a bit of a rivalry between Universal and Disney. Whether you're a Disney or Universal fan, one thing is certain: we Floridians can take our theme parks seriously! Some of us prefer to eat a Dole Whip while scrolling through Disney's Magic Kingdom, while others prefer a refreshingly cold Butterbeer while walking around Diagon Alley in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal. Either way, we love our theme parks!

5) We love our wildlife.

Was he trying to give me a high five? Hmmm...

Florida is a pretty unique place. The animals of Florida are diverse, just like the people! We have alligators, manatees, dolphins, panthers, deer, bears, snakes, spiders, and the list goes on. Thankfully, we have organizations and agencies such as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission working to protect our wildlife. One of my favorite things about Florida is getting to see all kinds of sea creatures at our beaches! You never know if you'll run across a stingray or a sea urchin.

Hopefully this little blog post has educated you about us Floridians. If you haven't already, consider visiting the Sunshine State! You may not want to leave after visiting one or more of our many vacation destinations.
